For a Sustainable Planet: Reduce Greenhouse Gases
Sustainable Technologies is committed to protecting our natural resources and reducing the amount of fossil fuel contamination in our environment. Here are some of the things that we do to reduce greenhouse gases that can lead to the threat of global warming.
Fueling Work Vehicles with Biodiesel
In one year, we have reduced at least 16,000 lbs of CO2 emissions by fueling up with Biodiesel. Biodiesel reduces carbon dioxide exhaust emissions by up to 80%, produces 100% less sulfur dioxide than petroleum-based diesel and reduces reduces exhaust smoke particulates emissions by up to 75%.* For light trips we use our electric hybrid vehicle.
Recycling
Our company recycles all recyclable material, including scrap metal. By recycling we save over 2,400 lbs of CO2 from entering the atmosphere per year.
Cycling
Many of our employees bike to work and enjoy cycling as a healthy recreational activity and sport. Our company is a proud sponsor of Team Oakland Cycling and participates in bicycle races and fundraising events. We support the East Bay Bicycle Coalition, the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, the Bay Area Bicycle Coalition and ride with the Grizzly Peak Cyclists. By cycling to work, each person saves approximately 15,000 lbs. of CO2 from entering the Earth's atmosphere annually.
Shopping Locally
Whenever possible we use local vendors and resources for our job materials.
Green Powered
Our shop is located in Alameda, where we receive some of the greenest power in the nation to build and design systems.
Donations to Sustainable Organizations
We have donated time, money and services to organizations that promote sustainability such as Grid Alternatives, Habitat for Humanity, The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, Working Assets, and The American Solar Energy Society. Most recently some of our employees volunteered to plant trees as part of reforestation efforts in Humboldt County.
Renewable Energy
We are currently doing research and development in the area of Biofuels in order to create more environmentally-friendly sources of renewable energy.
